How to Customise Excellent Systems Kits
Excellent Systems tiles offer exceptional adaptability, as they can be customised to virtually any shape or size. You can expand them by connecting multiple kits together to create larger access areas, or trim them down to fit tighter spaces and navigate around fixed obstacles.
In this blog, we’ll walk you through how to cut Excellent Systems tiles safely and effectively.
What Cutting Tools Do I Use?
Excellent Systems can be cut with any sharp household tool. This includes anything capable of cutting through tough plastic such as handsaws, power saws, and utility knives.
Using a power tool will save you time, but they are not essential unless you are cutting the larger ramp kits or have experience with these specific tools.
Moulded from the environmentally friendly material polyethylene, Excellent Systems are perfectly safe to cut. They are odourless, non-toxic, and resistant to extremely high temperatures.
Measuring the Access Space and Marking Your Kit
Although you may be eager to start cutting, you must take some measurements first. Start by placing your ramp against the threshold. In some instances, the ramp will fit perfectly without need for modification. However, sometimes the ramp could be too wide or there may be obstacles such as drain pipes in the way.
In cases like this, measure each obstacle occupying the space in which the ramp or platform kit will sit. Take accurate measurements of every vertical surface and mark them on a piece of paper.
After completing your measurements, take out a marking pen and recreate the measurements you have on paper onto the kit. To make the cutting easier, mark each layer of the kit individually with regard to where the cuts will need to be once all the layers are assembled. Be sure to double check your measurements to ensure you are correct.
If all is well, it is time to bring out the cutting tools. DIY enthusiasts should feel comfortable in doing this but if you are new to DIY, and not so confident, then consider getting help from someone who may have experience.

Cutting Your Ramp or Platform
Set your Excellent Systems product between two elevated points. This will allow your blade to cut all the way through the tiles without damaging the floor or tool.
When cutting, press your weight down on the kit. This will prevent the kit from slipping while you cut, protecting yourself from accidental injury and aiding your efforts to keep a smooth cutting line. If you cannot press your weight on the kit and cut at the same time, get someone else to hold it down for you. Alternatively, use a clamp.
With the kit held in place, begin cutting along the marked lines as closely as you can. Be sure to cut away from yourself and do not place your fingers in the path of the blade.
With each layer cut, your kit is almost ready. Place the layers on top of one another and slot the kit into the access point to see if it fits. If it does not fit then you may need to further modify your cuts.
Sanding down the edges of the ramp or platform will make a smoother fit and remove any sharp cuts that have been left.
Now that your kit is cut, adjust the height using the ramp adjusters, hammer in the locks, and insert the stoppers or mounting pads into the underside of the kit and slot the finished product into place.
Cut Safely!
Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you are unsure about making your measurements or cuts. Excellent Systems are designed for individuals to complete the entire installation process, so you could always ask for a friend or family member to help.
