What is VAT relief?

VAT relief allows disabled people and certain organisations, to purchase eligible goods at 0% VAT, rather than the prevailing rate (currently 20%).

Who is eligible

To be eligible for VAT relief the Government lists the following qualifying criteria:

Charities – you will need to provide a valid charity number.
A person who is chronically sick or disabled with:

a) a physical or mental impairment which has a long-term and substantial adverse effect upon their ability to carry out everyday activities.
b) a condition which the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness, such as diabetes.
c) a terminal illness.

Which items are eligible

VAT relief only applies to certain items that have been designed to be used by someone who is chronically sick or disabled. All the items on our website that are eligible, will have a note stating, “VAT relief available”.

What proof do you need to provide

In order to waive VAT on an eligible purchase, the Government requires a simple declaration to be made as to the nature of your disability at the time of ordering. This information can be provided during the online check-out. You do not have to show proof of your disability or chronic illness.

Important notes

There are certain situations where VAT relief will not apply, for example – a frail elderly person who is otherwise able bodied, or a person who is temporarily disabled or incapacitated, such as with a broken limb.
If you do not complete the VAT relief declaration, or you are not eligible for VAT relief, we are obliged to charge you the full VAT rate on all of your order.
Not all products are eligible for VAT relief, so we are obliged to charge VAT for those products, even if you are personally eligible.
